Fundraising At KHC

Since our reopening at Easter 2024 we have tried to build on that initial success. But once again the dice have not always rolled in our favour.

We have got better at raising money through grants and several events last year helped top up our bank balance. But fewer volunteers were available last year which impacted how many days we could open. With the full museum now open we need three stewards to be able to operate safely. We are still hugely reliant on donations and donations are less likely to happen unless we are open.

It costs us between £300 and £500 every month to keep KHC operational. Most of the costs are for essentials like heating and lighting, internet access and website and email hosting. The continued volatility of world events means we find ourselves in the position where we make savings through careful cost management only to lose them as another situation unfolds. Additionally there are costs involved to maintain the building not to mention costs associated with keeping the items in the collection safe and secure.

This year, even before the season had started we have had to undertake a major repair to the building. What appeared to be a minor leak turned into a major repair project with a final bill of £2,800. That would have wiped out our reserves so we are incredibly grateful to the Parish council who allowed us to submit an emergency grant application for the initial work and we secured an interest free loan from a benefactor to cover the remainder.

So, once again we are embarking on a various fundraising activities in 2026 to try and boost our reserves and become more resilient to problems and nasty surprises which will allow us to focus on being the best museum we can be.

Thanks again to all of our visitors and supporters! This year we need your help more than ever!
