Fundraising At KHC

Since our reopening on the Easter Weekend we have now had three further Sunday openings and are beginning to get used to the idea that we really are back in business. But reopening was just a milestone - albeit a pretty important one - and there is still a lot of work to do as we continue to build on our initial success.

It costs us between £300 and £500 every month to keep KHC operational. Most of the costs are for essentials like heating and lighting, internet access and website and email hosting. Additionally there are costs involved to maintain the building not to mention costs associated with keeping the items in the collection safe and secure.

We had to spend slightly more money than we'd hoped in the build the last couple of months before we finally opened up the doors, and we now need to put our finances on a more stable footing. We have already applied for a number of grants for specific projects :

we need to rebuild the fire escape before we can open up the second floor
only having one functioning computer is a blocker to cataloguing and digitising the collection so we need to purchase a couple of laptops
we need some professional consultancy to help with our accreditation efforts

Grants are great for project work but we need to raise funds ourselves to pay the bills. To that end we are embarking on a number of fundraising activities.

Thanks again to all of our visitors and supporters!
