2020 Christmas Message

Kegworth Heritage Centre

Christmas Message - 2020

To borrow from the Harry Potter books, this year should probably be thought of in the future as “the year that shall not be numbered” and for most of us, I’m sure that while we should never wish away time, none of us will shed a tear for 2020 when we wake up on January 1st 2021.

So let’s look forwards to the future, rather than reflecting on the past. Kegworth Heritage Centre will go into the New Year with our eyes on our 30th Anniversary in 2022. With all the major museum construction work completed during the past eighteen months, we are pulling out all the stops to make sure we are ready to celebrate that milestone.

We have been working with Leicestershire County Council since the end of October, and specifically with a specialist Heritage and Arts consultant. We have defined a plan to build on the efforts of the last three years which will put in place the missing pieces that are required to make us fully operational again. Our initial goal is a small scale reopening in 2021 when circumstances allow, and a full scale reopening celebration in 2022.

There is still a huge amount of work to be done and we will be asking for your support in a number of ways in the coming weeks and months. While organisations like the Heritage Centre will always need financial support, our biggest problem is a lack of people and we shall be launching a volunteer programme in the very near future. This will be a great opportunity for people to put something back into our community with their existing skills or to potentially learn new skills and use them in a different context. Watch out for details in the New Year.

On behalf of all the trustees at the Heritage Centre, we wish you all the best Christmas you can have and we hope to see you all again soon in the New Year!
