Kegworth Heritage Plaques - Kegworth's Oldest House
13 Dragwell
Believed to be the oldest house in Kegworth dating back to the 1500s. It was known locally as the Bee House, because Mason Bees nest in holes in the brickwork in early summer.
In 1948 the Long Eaton Co-op Society bought the cottage and the surrounding land from Christ College Cambridge.
In 1974 the Kegworth Village Association (KVA) bought the cottage (with a sitting tenant) for the purposes of establishing a museum, but it was later found not to be suitable.
Then, in 1986 Doctors Hoyte, Anderson, Stein and James bought the cottage and land from the KVA. The land to the rear of the cottage was covered with an ancient variety of fruit trees and this land was used to build the surgery, hence its name, Orchard Surgery.
In 2024 the cottage was sold to a private buyer who has named the property "The Forge"
