Sited on Nottingham Road just behind the church, the building was originally used as a free school c1575. 100 years later when it was in a state of disrepair and in danger of falling, voluntary subscriptions were made to save it and add another floor. In the middle of the 18th century, a new school room was put up in the churchyard. Harrison House continued to operate as a school until the mid 1800s when it was replaced by buildings in Dragwell.
Mr Harrison, owned a small Stockinger’s shop at the back of Harrison House during the 1800s. He employed several men and one woman.
The attractive property displays substantial timber framing and is Grade II listed.
